1. Do You Guarantee Your Treatments?

The common response is “Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee the results as everybody responds differently to laser hair removal.”

At first glance that seems reasonable but if you think about it for awhile it doesn’t sit well. This is because, if the clinic has purchased a laser that specializes in laser hair removal and their technician really knows how to assess the client’s skin and hair, then they would be able to identify who the treatment will work for and who it will not. So, they should then be able to guarantee the results.

2. What Type Of Laser Do You Use?

This is very important. Most lasers are multipurpose lasers and this is where the clinic saves money but you lose out on when it comes to removing your hair. The multipurpose machine is just like a buffet, all the food is average and none of it is great.
The facts are, if you have light to medium-coloured skin, you need a 1064 Nd:YAG laser. If you have medium to dark-coloured skin, you need a 755 Alexandrite laser.
There are a lot of IPL machines out there. These use Intense Pulse Light (IPL). This technology is marketed under many different brand names. They are the most popular multipurpose machine in the market because they are much cheaper than lasers. An IPL is great if you are treating rosacea or age spots and it’s good for skin tightening. It is less effective with laser hair removal. The majority of people that come to us and say they have tried laser hair removal and it really didn’t work have usually been treated with an IPL.

3. What Type Of Training Do Your Technicians Have?

You will be shocked to know there are no regulations in BC on who can be a technician. Simply put, anyone can do it. You can buy a machine today and you can charge the public anything you like. It is crucial that you know what training the technician has had before you have them work on you. They could easily do irreversible damage to your skin. Our clinic sees these types of errors most often when people come in after responding to a special discount ad that sounds too good to be true.

Your technician needs to be a graduate of a Medical Esthetics program. They need to be individually certified for the type of laser used. Example, our technicians are certified by the Cynosure Training Team. This ensures you that our technicians understand the settings and operation of the equipment being used on you.

Do not go to a clinic that does not have rigid guidelines in place for training and educating their technicians. It is just not worth risking a burn, permanent scar, or hyperpigmentation.

4. Did I Make The Right Choice?

Do you honestly feel that the clinic you are booking your treatment with is the best choice? Do not get persuaded by fancy brochures, websites, expensive decor, sales people or even great prices. You need to make sure that the clinic has your best interest at heart. At the end of the day, laser hair removal boils down to safety, professionalism, and effectiveness.
